About

The 13th Khartiia Brigade is a modern combat formation established in 2023 as part of Ukraine’s rapid expansion of capable assault and security units during the full-scale war. Formed within the structure of the National Guard, the brigade was created to meet the demands of high-intensity combat while also maintaining flexibility for a wide range of missions, including offensive operations, territorial defense, and stabilization tasks. From its inception, Khartiia has been built as a forward-looking unit, combining motivated personnel, structured training, and a strong emphasis on cohesion and adaptability in dynamic combat environments.

The brigade is commanded by Ihor Obolenskyi, under whose leadership it has developed its operational capabilities and internal organization. As a newly formed unit, Khartiia has focused on rapidly achieving combat readiness by integrating experienced fighters with newly trained personnel, allowing it to deploy effectively while continuing to refine its tactical approach. The brigade has cultivated a distinct identity, reinforced by strong leadership and a modern outlook on warfare.

A defining feature of the 13th Khartiia Brigade is its active integration of unmanned aerial systems into its operations. The unit makes extensive use of reconnaissance drones to monitor enemy positions, gather real-time intelligence, and coordinate artillery and infantry movements. In addition, strike UAVs are employed to engage enemy targets with precision, increasing operational efficiency while reducing risks to personnel. This focus on drone warfare enhances the brigade’s situational awareness and responsiveness, positioning it as a technologically adaptive formation aligned with the evolving demands of modern conflict.
