155th Separate Mechanized Brigade

The 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is a modern combat formation established in 2023 as part of the country’s ongoing expansion and adaptation of its ground forces during the full-scale war. Created to meet the demands of high-intensity, large-scale combat, the brigade is structured around mechanized infantry, armored vehicles, and artillery, allowing it to conduct both defensive operations and offensive maneuvers across complex battlefield environments. As a newly formed unit, it reflects a new generation of Ukrainian brigades built with an emphasis on flexibility, coordination, and integration of modern combat practices.

The brigade is commanded by Colonel Dmytro Ryumshin, under whose leadership it has been developed into a cohesive and capable formation. Like many units formed during this period, the 155th Mechanized Brigade combines experienced personnel with newly trained soldiers, enabling it to rapidly achieve operational readiness while continuing to build combat experience. Its structure and training focus on coordination between different combat elements, ensuring effectiveness in dynamic and high-pressure environments.

A key aspect of the brigade’s operational capability is its integration of unmanned aerial systems into its combat framework. The unit actively employs reconnaissance drones to gather real-time intelligence, monitor enemy movements, and support precise artillery targeting. In addition, strike UAVs are utilized to engage enemy personnel, equipment, and fortified positions, enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of combat operations. This emphasis on drone usage significantly improves situational awareness and coordination on the battlefield, allowing the brigade to operate as a modern, adaptive, and technologically capable force within Ukraine’s armed forces.
