About
The 413th Unmanned Systems Regiment “RAID” of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is a specialized formation dedicated to drone warfare, established in 2024 during the rapid expansion of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces. Originally formed as a battalion, the unit demonstrated significant operational effectiveness and was subsequently expanded into a regiment-level formation, reflecting the growing importance of unmanned systems in modern combat. Unlike traditional units, “RAID” is structured around technological capability, precision strike potential, and continuous battlefield surveillance, making it a key element in Ukraine’s evolving military doctrine.
The regiment is commanded by Yevhen Karas, under whose leadership it has developed into a highly capable and adaptive force. The unit brings together skilled UAV operators, engineers, analysts, and support personnel, enabling it to conduct complex operations that rely on coordination, real-time intelligence, and rapid execution. Its specialized structure allows it to operate independently or in support of other formations, delivering targeted effects across a wide operational area.
Drone usage is the central pillar of the 413th “RAID” Regiment’s operational concept. The unit extensively employs reconnaissance UAVs to maintain persistent surveillance, identify and track enemy targets, and provide actionable intelligence to Ukrainian forces. In addition, it utilizes a wide range of strike drones to conduct precision attacks against armored vehicles, artillery systems, logistics hubs, and fortified positions. This layered approach to unmanned warfare allows the regiment to deliver consistent and cost-effective battlefield impact while minimizing risk to personnel. As a result, the 413th “RAID” Regiment exemplifies the shift toward technology-driven combat, where unmanned systems play a decisive and increasingly dominant role in shaping battlefield outcomes.
