5th Air assault battalion

The 5th Separate Assault Battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is a frontline combat unit established in 2022 during the early phase of the full-scale invasion, created to reinforce Ukraine’s capacity for high-intensity assault operations. Formed from motivated volunteers and experienced fighters, the battalion was designed as a flexible and aggressive infantry formation capable of operating in some of the most demanding sectors of the front. Its role typically involves direct assaults, defensive holding actions, and rapid response tasks, often in complex urban or heavily contested environments where adaptability and initiative are critical.

The battalion is commanded by Dmytro Kukharchuk, under whose leadership it has developed a reputation for determination, cohesion, and effectiveness in close combat situations. In addition, strike UAVs are used to engage enemy personnel, equipment, and fortified positions with precision, increasing combat efficiency while minimizing exposure of troops.
