77th Air Assault Brigade

The 77th Air Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is a high-mobility combat formation established in 2022 as part of the rapid expansion of Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces during the full-scale invasion. Designed for fast-paced and flexible operations, the brigade specializes in rapid deployment, offensive assaults, and maneuver warfare across diverse and often challenging battlefield environments. As an air assault unit, it emphasizes speed, coordination, and the ability to operate independently or in support of larger formations, making it a key asset in both defensive and counteroffensive operations.

The brigade is commanded by Andrii Zabolotnyi, under whose leadership it has developed into a capable and adaptive force despite its relatively recent formation. Built from a combination of experienced airborne personnel and newly trained soldiers, the unit has focused on achieving a high level of readiness through intensive training and operational integration. Its structure and doctrine reflect the demands of modern airborne and air assault warfare, where mobility and rapid decision-making are critical.

A significant component of the 77th Air Assault Brigade’s operational capability is its integration of unmanned aerial systems into its combat framework. In addition, strike UAVs are used to engage enemy positions and equipment, enhancing the effectiveness of rapid assault operations.
