About
Buntar Aerospace was founded in 2023, inspired by Star Wars, which gave it its name. The developments include an unmanned aerial long-range reconnaissance system (from 40 km from the control station), Buntar-1, special software for automated mission planning and execution with an intelligent copilot, which helps the operator reduce the risk of losing the UAV, and an AI-based navigation system that works without GPS.
According to Kateryna Bezsudna, co-founder of the project, the UAV sector was chosen after Defense Tech analyzed the market and communicated with the military as one of the most important segments.
Details
The company currently has three R&D teams: one developing the aircraft, the second developing a software product for planning and executing missions, and the third solving GPS navigation issues using several methods simultaneously.
The Buntar-1 UAV uses a multi-rotor system for takeoff, after which it switches to airplane flight mode. This reduces the risk of losing the UAV during takeoff or landing. The main task for the team is to reduce the cost of the reconnaissance mission by increasing the number of flights of one UAV before it is lost. To do this, they analyzed hundreds of scenarios in which a UAV is lost and considered these risks at the initial stage. These decisions are then turned into algorithms: AI analyzes the situation and communicates with the operator. This is how drones become truly reusable.
Instead of a drone mission planner, we use the Buntar Copilot AI-driven software. It automates many flight mission preparation routines and advises on a mission. The software can be integrated with other types of aircraft. It is already in use in many units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for mission planning.
