First Contact is a Ukrainian defense technology company based in Chernihiv, with its operational focus on unmanned systems beginning in 2014 following the onset of the conflict in eastern Ukraine. While the legal entity dates back to 2011, the company’s transformation into a military-oriented developer marked its true emergence as part of Ukraine’s early wave of domestic defense innovation. Since then, it has played a role in developing indigenous UAV capabilities, contributing to the country’s growing self-reliance in modern military technology.
The company is led by Mykhailo Samus, with Valerii Borovyk recognized as its founder and a key driving force behind its development. Under this leadership, First Contact has built a team of engineers and specialists focused on designing practical, combat-relevant solutions. Its work is guided by direct understanding of battlefield requirements, allowing it to adapt quickly to evolving operational challenges.
